Youth shot down by Bulut

Brisbane Roar Youth have suffered a second defeat of the National Youth League campaign, going down to defending champions Sydney at Goodwin Park this afternoon.

Kerem Bulut bagged a brace for the Sky Blues, while Josh McVey was the Roar's biggest threat, going close on a number of occasions.

The hot and windy conditions were hardly ideal for the match, as both teams struggled to create any real opportunities until well into the match.

Sydney should have taken the lead on 28 minute when Bulut was fouled in the penalty area by Albert Edward, but the quick striker sent his spot kick over the bar.

McVey then went close for the visitors five minutes before the break, reading Adam Sarota's clever flick over the defence and volleying just past the near post from the edge of the area.

A minute later, however, the home team found themselves trailing as Hussein Akil broke down the right and crossed for Bulut to tap home at the far post.

The Roar could have conceded another just before the interval, but Matt Acton was down quickly to keep out an effort from Dimitrios Petratos.

However, just five minutes into the second half, Bulut had his and Sydney's second, twisting past two defenders before powering the ball into the back of the net.

Sarota tried to help his team back into the contest with a superb long pass to McVey on 57 mintes.

The nimble attacker controlled the ball beautifully with his chest but his subsequent shot across the face of goal flashed the wrong side of the post.

With time running out McVey looked the Roar's most likely source of a comeback but luck wasn't with the 18-year-old as another effort went just wide.

After latching onto a through ball, a delicate chip over the goalkeeper seemed destined for the back of the net, only to spin millimetres past the far post for a goal kick.

The chance was the last real opportunity for the home team as Sydney continued a perfect start to their title defence.
