Youngsters showing promise

Brisbane Roar Youth coach Rado Vidosic believes his youngsters are beginning to find their feet in the new National Youth League campaign following a 1-1 draw in Melbourne yesterday.

The result leaves the Roar in sixth place on the ladder after four rounds, but Vidosic said the team was showing plenty of positive signs.

“I-m quite sure that we-re going to get some better performances, but at the moment I-m very, very happy with the way we-re progressing,” he said.

“Although there is a lot of room for improvement, we just need to be patient and it will come.”

After conceding via a first-half free kick from Victory midfielder Aziz Behich, Luke Brattan equalised with a set piece of his own and Vidosic said Brisbane could have snatched all three points in the end.

“We dominated the game throughout the whole 90 minutes,” he said.

“There were just a few moments when the domination went their way but everything else was clearly in our hands.

“We created enough chances to score a few goals but Mitch (Langerak) in their goal was excellent, plus we missed the target a few times.

“So maybe we could have got a better result but overall I was very happy with the performance.”

With the senior squad playing the night before, Vidosic took the opportunity to play a number of first team players, including short-term signing Mario Karlovic, who played 30 minutes at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

After backing up with another hour of game time in the youth match, Vidosic said the midfielder proved he was ready to take on Gold Coast at Suncorp Stadium this Sunday, pending selection.

“He was very lively. He orchestrated the play in the middle,” he said.

Brisbane Roar Youth take on Gold Coast United this Friday, 4pm at Goodwin Park, Cansdale Street, Yeronga.

Tickets for the match are available at the gate and cost $5 adults, $3 concessions/under-15s and free for Roar members.
