Young Roar ready for crucial final clash

Our Young Roar are preparing for a crucial match to end their Foxtel Y-League 2019/20 regular season.

They currently sit atop of Conference A having played a game extra than their nearest rivals Melbourne Victory.

The defending Foxtel Y-League champions will play their final game away to Adelaide this Sunday at 10am. Young Roar Head Coach Chris Grossman is firmly focused on what his side can improve on and control heading into their match against Adelaide.

“A whole 90-minute performance would be nice. We’ve had patches throughout the year where we’ve been good for 20, 30 minutes, maybe 60 minutes at best but I don’t think we’ve stitched that ninety-minute performance together,” Grossman admitted.

“To get a full 90 minutes of football that we’re proud of as a Club and as a playing group. We’ll need that as well because Adelaide are quite a good side and we’ll need to be ready.

Grossman

“They’re a side which is all or nothing. They press high, they’re solid defensively, they have a lot of good players that will cause us problems.

“A lot of our boys that have been after opportunities and we’ve bought them in for an opportunity at a higher level, will get a chance this weekend and we’ll really see where they’re at.”

A win on Sunday morning for the Roar could widen the gap between them and the Victory to four points by the time the Victory play later Sunday afternoon.

With the Young Roar holding a far superior goal difference, Grossman wants his side to mount as much pressure on their Melbournian counterparts as possible.

Young Roar

“The way the fixtures are played this weekend, we play first at 10am and the Victory don’t play until 4pm. We really need to get that result first and that then puts the pressure on them.

“They’ve got two games to go as well, but with our superior goal difference, if we can get a result first, it puts the pressure on them.

“It’ll take a good performance from us on the weekend and if we can do that, and then get the three points, we can put a lot of pressure on Victory to do what they need to do.

“If they’re good enough, kudos to them. But we’ll definitely be giving it everything we’ve got.”
