Wenzel-Halls stoked to be contributing

Brisbane Roar attacker Dylan Wenzel-Halls hopes his side can use Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Mariners to launch into the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Wenzel-Hall’s made his first start of the season and contributed an assist in the Roar’s victory over the Mariners at Suncorp Stadium.

The young forward was rewarded with a spot in the Hyundai A-League Team of the Week and hopes he can kick on from the solid display.

“It was very enjoyable to be back out there with the boys and most importantly contribute but to receive that little honour is a nice way to top it off,” Wenzel-Halls said.

“Each training session I’m getting fitter, stronger and better so as long as I can contribute to goals and assists, there’s no complaints here.”

The win over Central Coast was a welcome result following a tough start to the campaign.

“We’ve had some disappointing results in the last few games so to get a win at Suncorp [Stadium] with a clean sheet and two goals is really good,” the attacker continued.

“Despite the results, I think we’ve played some good football so to finally string together a good performance as well as a result is massive for our confidence leading into the Sydney game.”

The Sky Blues currently sit atop the Hyundai A-League table and Wenzel-Halls is expecting a tough battle when the sides face-off in Sydney on Saturday (6:30pm KO).

“Sydney are a good side, they’ve got a lot of good qualities so we need to be aware of those qualities and not fear them,” Wenzel-Halls added.

“We’ve come off a good result and I think we have to take the game to them and if we can score early that would help massively.

“We played Sydney FC in the [FFA] Cup and we beat them so we know we’re capable of beating them – it’s just a matter of turning up, putting in a good shift and working hard.”
