The weekend ahead: Blockbuster Friday

Thumbnail

Not one, not two, but three big games await Brisbane Roar Football Club this weekend with crucial fixtures across the board on Friday afternoon.

Both our Westfield W-League & Foxtel Y-League squads are really coming to the pointy end of their respective seasons while our Hyundai A-League side are hunting their first victory of 2019 under Friday night lights at Suncorp Stadium.

With all three sides are in action on Friday, here’s all you need to know about the three contests & how you can stay up to the minute across the day.

Foxtel Y-League: Young Roar v Melbourne Victory

Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne
Friday, 25 January (3pm KO QLD time)

The first match of the afternoon sees our Young Roar take on Melbourne Victory in a monster Foxtel Y-League clash in Melbourne. With one match to play, our oldest BRFC Academy side sit at the top of Conference A, holding off last year’s Grand Finalists Melbourne City on goal difference.

LADDER: Foxtel Y-League state of affairs

Our Young Roar will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in Adelaide on Saturday. Should they match or better Melbourne City’s result away to the Reds, which kicks off at 3:30pm QLD time on Friday, the Roar will earn their spot in the Foxtel Y-League Grand Final.

Westfield W-League: Brisbane Roar v Canberra United

We’re starting the long weekend with a bang in the first match of our double header at Suncorp Stadium. Our Roar Women are firmly locked in a battle for a Westfield W-League finals berth & face perrennial contenders Canberra United in their final home game of the regular season.

With two rounds to go, our Roar Women currently hold third place on the ladder with an incredible seven teams vying for four finals spots.

Undefeated in their last two meetings against Canberra, our Women in orange will be buoyed by a 4-1 victory, which secured the Club’s third Westfield W-League premiership, when these sides last met at Suncorp Stadium. Get your tickets HERE.

Our Hyundai A-League side are back at Suncorp Stadium looking to build momentum into the remainder of the season.

We face Western Sydney Wanderers – a side we have shared many memorable contests with. The two teams have met once already this season – a 2-2 draw in Mudgee back in Round 4.

Striker Adam Taggart will be looking to build upon a superb home record this season as he eyes a seventh goal in as many matches at Suncorp Stadium.
