Victory on Colthorpe's mind

Lauren Colthorpe is confident the Brisbane Roar Women can continue their winning form in Melbourne this weekend, but admits it will be one of their hardest games of the season.

Lauren Colthorpe is confident the Brisbane Roar Women can continue their winning form in Melbourne this weekend, but admits it will be one of their hardest games of the season.

Both the Roar and the Victory had impressive wins in the opening round, over Canberra United and Perth Glory respectively, but Colthorpe is sure her side has what it takes to win.

“Games against Melbourne are always tough, but we-re heading down there well prepared,” she said.

Colthorpe singled out American recruit Julianne Sitch as Melbourne-s biggest threat.

“They lacked a good ball player in the middle last year, and now they-ve got a new American player who-s filled that role, but we-re confident we can win the battle in the midfield”.

Coach Jeff Hopkins agreed that the game would be won in the centre of the park.

“We are expecting a tough game," Hopkins said.

“Aivi (Luik), Lauren (Colthorpe) and Tameka (Butt) have got really important roles this week and if they come out on top, it will go a long way in getting a good result”.

Hopkins also said the Melbourne side would not be easy-beats.

“I-ve watched them this week and they look strong. I think they-ll be one of the main teams that will be challenging at the end of the season”.

In a boost for the reigning champions, the experienced Kate McShea will be fit after missing most of the week-s training with an ankle injury sustained in last weekend-s win over Canberra United.

“She had a fitness test yesterday and came through really well,” Hopkins said.
