Brisbane Roar take on old rivals Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday and two of the club-s new boys can-t wait to get a taste of the action.

Shane Stefanutto and Michael Theoklitos may have only recently become part of the Brisbane Roar family, but they already have the strong desire to beat their southern rivals.

Encouraged by the confident showing against Gold Coast on the opening weekend of the Hyundai A-League, Stefanutto is looking for further improvement from the home side on Saturday.

“We want to get better even,” Stefanutto said. “We-re really confident, we played some good football against Gold Coast and we hope to continue that at home against Sydney this week.

“I-m sure Sydney are going to be working really hard this week and I-m sure they don-t want to lose two on the trot.

“They-re going to be motivated, but it-s our home game and we want to make Suncorp Stadium a fortress.”

Brisbane has lost only once to Sydney in the past 10 encounters between the clubs, the last meeting the courageous 1-0 Suncorp Stadium win January.

Looking to add another win and clean sheet to that run of form is Brisbane shot-stopper Michael Theoklitos.

One of many stand-out performers in the opening match Theoklitos said the week off for the bye had been put to good use by the squad.

“We-ve had an opportunity to go back to the training field and train quite hard now we can-t wait to get out there in our first home game against Sydney, we really excited,” he said.

“Sydney are the champions, they obviously haven-t gotten off to a good start, but they-re going to come out firing and we have to be ready for that.

“It-s our first home game so we really want to get the three points and we really look forward to that challenge.

This is a big rivalry between us and Sydney, so we-re looking forward to the whole of Brisbane getting behind us, wearing their orange and making it as loud as possible.”

Kick-off for Saturday’s match at Suncorp Stadium is 7.30pm.
