Suncorp Stadium this weekend will become the first sports venue in Australia to have a dedicated gluten-free outlet for its patrons.

Suncorp Stadium this weekend will become the first sports venue in Australia to have a dedicated gluten-free outlet for its patrons.

The range of gluten-free products available will include the “traditional football favourites” such as pies, hot dogs, burgers and fish and chips. However, there will also be gluten-free nachos, pizzas, quiches, salad rolls and donuts for sale.

The outlet will display a distinct logo with the letters “GF” and a white tick inside a green circle, which will also feature on the uniforms of staff working there.

The initiative was supported by Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Michael Theo, who maintains a gluten free diet.

Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham said the move was in recognition of the number of people who now sought gluten-free products.

“In addition to those who suffer from celiac disease, research indicates a growing number of Australians are now introducing gluten-free products into their diets. The number is as high as 1 in 22 people.

“Based on current attendances, that-s more than 45,000 patrons a year we believe will benefit from being able to purchase gluten-free products when attending the Stadium,” he said.

It will be operational for the first time this weekend when the Roar host Adelaide United in round 22 of the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season.
