Strong pre-season creating positive headaches

Experienced striker Henrique says this weekend’s pre-season clash against a Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League Select outfit is perfect preparation with the new season just around the corner.

The Roar will take on a squad containing the best players from South-East Queensland’s premier football competition this Saturday night at Logan Metro Sports Park (6:30pm KO).

With an opposition sure to be keen to but their best foot forward against Hyundai A-League opposition, the Slippery Fish says it’s just the test his side needs.

“For them, it’s a reward for their hard work during the season and a great opportunity to play against us,” Henrique said

“It’s also a good test as well, playing against some of Brisbane’s best footballers. We go into every game to play hard and win, and we will do that on Saturday.”

The fixture is one of two to be played in quick succession on home turf at our new training facility. We will also welcome the Young Socceroos to Logan next Thursday behind-closed-doors.

“It’s always good to play at our new facility – our fans get to watch us play & we get to show them what we’re training for and just how serious we are about this season,” Henrique continued.

“With less than four weeks to go, we can’t relax and need to continue working hard.”

The fan favourite will take a strong pre-season into the new Hyundai A-League season.

After returning to the Club early in 2018, improving his fitness and finding the back of the net as often as possible has been high on his agenda.

“It’s been a very good pre-season so far. I’m really enjoying the way we’re working,” Henrique added.

“I’m looking after myself & giving myself a better chance to contribute to the team and I think I’m getting the rewards. I’m getting to the point of my career that I know what I can and can’t do and that experience has helped me a lot.”

The 144-game Club veteran forms part of a formidable BRFC attacking lineup, which also contains the likes of lethal attackers Adam Taggart and Eric Bautheac, and is sure to create a headache for Head Coach John Aloisi at the selection table.

A goal mid-week in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Melbourne City did his confidence no harm and Henrique says that competition for places is exactly what’s needed on the eve of a new season.

“It’s a great confidence boost to score, but it’s the ones I score during the season that matter,” he concluded.

“I think that’s a headache that all coaches want to have – it’s up to us to keep working hard and earn our spots in the team.”

We open our Hyundai A-League 2018/19 campaign at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, 21 October against the Central Coast Mariners (4:00pm KO). Get your tickets HERE!
