Statement regarding Charlie Miller

Brisbane Roar has agreed to release Scottish midfielder Charlie Miller from his contract with the Hyundai A-League club, effective immediately.

Brisbane has agreed to Miller-s request to end his contract at the Roar.

Roar coach Ange Postecoglou said he and Miller had discussed the player-s immediate future this week and both agreed a termination of his contract would allow the playmaker to seek further employment for next season.

“We-re currently in the process of evaluating our squad for next season and at this point Charlie wasn-t guaranteed a place in the squad,” Postecoglou said. “Charlie and I discussed the matter and while we-d hoped he would stay until January, he made it clear it was time he moved on to pursue other opportunities.

“We certainly don-t want to stand in the way of a professional footballer earning a living and we agreed to his request.

“Charlie-s impact on this club, particularly last season, cannot be underestimated. He has been a fantastic player and we wish him all the very best for the future.

“However, it is now time for us to focus on the long-term future of the club and we will be doing that over the coming months.”

Miller was last season-s Hyundai A-League Foreign Player of the Year and was in the final year of a two-year contract.
