Boosted by their first full week of training in over a month, Brisbane Roar skipper Matt Smith is confident his side can bounce back from last weekend-s disappointing result this Sunday against Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium.

Their 7-1 win over the Reds 13 months ago is a distant memory as Brisbane chase their second win of the current campaign, their first set of three points coming against Melbourne Victory two weeks ago.

“We-re the same as every other player in every other team – nobody likes losing,” Smith said.

“We certainly want to make amends for last week and it wouldn-t matter if it-s against Adelaide on Sunday or any other team.

“We-re coming off the back of a loss and we want to make amends for last week.”

Alongside Head Coach Rado Vidosic-s comprehensive video analysis of both Adelaide United and the club-s 1-0 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers in round four means Brisbane is as equipped as they can be to put in the best performance possible against the early league leaders.

Smith said it was clear where the team needed to improve.

“The biggest thing that came out of last week was the number of transitions we had, the number of times we gave the ball away,” he said.

“For us, over the past two years, we-ve been really good at keeping the ball which we work on every single week at training.

“We always work on our possession so that-s one thing that we-re trying to focus on for this game on Sunday.”

With just four points from four matches, despite putting five goals past the Victory in round two, Smith said the mindset of the side was just as important as their on-pitch preparation.

“We were probably a bit below par but we-ve looked at the game – we did play to our structures, we did dominate the game from a passing perspective, we did look to play,” he said.

“Unfortunately, passes that have stuck in the past just didn-t stick last week.

“We always go out to win games, we always go out focused on what we need to do and it-s going to be no different this week.”
