Brisbane Roar Women will have a notable American flavour this season with the announcement of two new players for season 10 of the Westfield W-League.
Talented American duo Celeste Boureille and Carson Pickett will join the Roar on loan for the upcoming campaign and walk in the footsteps of fellow countrywoman Maddy Evans who played a key role in midfield during the 2016/17 season.
Pickett is regarded as one of the States' finest young defenders. She was taken at pick four in the 2016 National Women's Soccer League College Draft after anchoring a Florida State defence that didn't concede a single goal on the way to the NCAA Division 1 Women's Soccer Championship.
Pickett has battled adversity after being born without a left forearm, but has shown she is up for any challenge put in front of her and it was her raw talent that impressed Head Coach Mel Andreatta.
“What caught my eye was her ability going forward as a left fullback. Carson is super positive out on the park and her work rate is immense,” Andreatta said.
“She is a very good one-on-one defender and her height gives us a bit more cover for those teams that play directly against us and she certainly has the speed to help us in the front third too.
“From what I have seen Carson is a level-headed, smart defender who copes very well in difficult situations that are presented during a match. I am confident she is going to be an excellent addition to our talented group."
23-year-old midfielder Boureille also heads down under with an impressive resume.
Following an impressive college career at the University of California, she played her first Westfield W-League season with Canberra United in the 2016/17 campaign before returning to the US and playing a key part in the Portland Thorns run to the NWSL title with Roar teammate Hayley Raso.
Both players have represented the United States at Under-23 level and Andreatta is excited about what the duo will bring to the Roar this season.
"Celeste and Carson have both played in one of the toughest competitions in the world in the NWSL and know how to perform at a high level, meet expectations, deal with pressure and they will help us move in the direction we are looking to head," Andreatta added.
"They understand that we are a very aspirational club and we are delighted to have them on board. This group of players are hungry for success and can't wait for season 10 to begin."
Brisbane Roar open the Westfield W-League season next Friday night at Allianz Stadium against Sydney FC (4:20pm KO QLD time) before returning to Suncorp Stadium for the first of five home double headers on Sunday, 5 November to face Perth Glory (1:30pm KO).
