Matildas star Katrina Gorry makes Roar history

One of Brisbane Roar’s favourite daughters has committed to another two seasons in orange.

Midfield maestro Katrina Gorry, affectionately known as Mini, has become the first Roar Westfield W-League player to sign a multi-year deal with the Club.

Gorry, whose name has become synonymous with scorching pace and spectacular goals, has made 59 appearances for the Roar and was a member of the 2012-13 premiership squad.

The 2014 AFC Women’s Player of the Year will run out for a sixth straight campaign in the Brisbane orange when the Roar open the 10th season of the Westfield W-League next Friday night against Sydney at Allianz Stadium (4:20pm KO QLD time).

Brisbane return home for the first of five Westfield W-League/Hyundai A-League double headers at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, 5 November to take on Perth Glory (1:20pm KO).

Coach Mel Andreatta was full of praise for Gorry and is thrilled to have her on board for the next two seasons.

“This is a fantastic statement with only a week to go until the start of the new season. Katrina is an important member of our group and we know that she is a very attacking-minded player who is always looking for ways to create chances for her team,” Andreatta said.

“Katrina wants to constantly improve and is determined to make a positive impact on the field week in, week out.

“She is a fierce competitor who is always looking for the opportunity to shoot, be positive, and has shown time and time again that she is capable of finding the net from any distance."

Gorry has netted 16 goals in the Brisbane orange and has hit the back of the net in every Westfield W-League campaign she has played in and ended the 2016/17 season as the side’s Golden Boot winner alongside Tameka Butt.
