GREAT NEWS: Gielnik returns home

Brisbane Roar has added more experience to its Westfield W-League squad with the announcement that electric attacker Emily Gielnik has signed on for the 2017/18 campaign.

Gielnik will return to Brisbane later this month following a standout season with Norwegian outfit Avaldsnes IL where she has netted six goals in 11 matches.

The 25-year-old will be one of the most experienced players in the squad after playing her first Westfield W-League match for Brisbane back in just the competition’s second season.

Since then she has gone on to make 74 appearances for the Club, netting 28 goals in the process as well as representing her nation on 12 occasions – most recently at the Algarve Cup in Portugal in March.

Head Coach Mel Andreatta is excited about the return of the in-form attacker.

“Emily will further strengthen our attacking options. She’s coming off a strong season and has recently gained more playing time with the national team and she will be an asset during this season,” Andreatta said.

“With her ability to create scoring chances from wide areas and her set-piece delivery, we are confident that her impact will be a positive one this campaign.

“Emily is a hard worker and loves the challenges that the Westfield W-League provides. I’m sure our supporters are looking forward to seeing her in orange again in the near future.”

Gielnik is another Club stalwart to sign-on with the Roar after Katrina Gorry & Tameka Butt both confirmed their return for Westfield W-League season 10.

She re-joins an already star-studded Roar Women’s side that features seven past and present Westfield Matildas, a raft of promising young guns and quality international players.

The Roar Women opened their season with a 3-1 win at Allianz Stadium against Sydney FC last week and will be looking to continue their perfect start to the season against the Sam Kerr-led Perth Glory on Sunday afternoon at Suncorp Stadium (1:30pm KO).

That clash will be followed by the Hyundai A-League clash between Brisbane and Central Coast Mariners.
