Brisbane Roar Youth has begun its Foxtel Y-League Championship defence in sparkling fashion, downing Melbourne Victory Youth in a 7-0 rout at Eric Evans Reserve on Saturday morning.

Five different players found the back of the net, highlighted by a hat-trick from Mirza Muratovic as the Roar opened their campaign in style.

Cai Tipaldo opened the scoring shortly after the half-hour mark before Muratovic converted from the spot & Aaron Reardon’s header extended the squad’s lead to three goals at the break.

It wasn’t until the 69th minute that the Young Roar found their fourth goal, with a brilliant solo effort from Eli Adams putting the game beyond doubt before Muratovic polished off his hat-trick with two strikes five minutes apart late in the piece.

An exquisitely-placed free-kick from Keegan Jelacic then rounded out the scoring on the cusp of second-half stoppage time.

“There’s new opportunities for some fresh faces in the squad, but as you saw today, there’s also plenty of familiar faces who have the chance to further their development and push for first-team football,” Head Coach Chris Grossman said post-match.

“It’s a credit to the boys & shows how quickly they’ve bought in to our ideas & philosophy – for large portions of today’s game, we were very good.

“It’s good now we have the bye to reinforce that performance and look ahead to Melbourne City in a fortnight’s time.”
