Roar Women clinch Premiership in dominant display

Brisbane Roar made Westfield W-League history on Sunday afternoon after securing a record-equaling third Premiership following a dominant display against Canberra United.

The Roar knew a win on the final day would be enough to see them crowned premiers for Westfield W-League season 10, and they secured the first piece of silverware for the season in some fashion.

First-half goals to Hayley Raso and Emily Gielnik, both of whom have now scored in consecutive matches, consolidated by a second-half brace from substitute Abbey Lloyd saw the hosts run out 4-1 victors.

Lifting her third Premiers Plate in an illustrious Westfield W-League career, Captain Clare Polkinghorne praised her side's ability to block out any distractions and put in a stellar performance.

"I am so proud of the way we came out today. We were able to stay level-headed and that allowed us to prepare as as normally as possible in the lead up," Polkinghorne said.

The Roar now face Melbourne City in a blockbuster Major Semi-Final at Perry Park on Sunday, 11 February (3pm kick-off). Tickets go on sale at Midday on Tuesday, 6 February.

Brisbane have faced City twice previously this season for a win and a draw.

"Next week will be a tough game, as most games have been this season, but I know that we'll give it our all," Polkinghorne said.
