Brisbane Roar has bolstered its midfield stocks with the signing of New Zealand international Matthew Ridenton for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

At just 24 years of age, Ridenton brings with him a wealth of Hyundai A-League experience with 102 appearances under his belt at Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets.

The five-time All Whites representative becomes the second addition to the squad in as many days, alongside Lions FC product Danny Kim.

“I’m really excited. I’ve had a few sessions with the boys and everyone has been very welcoming. There’s a great culture here and I’m looking forward to contributing where I can,” Ridenton said.

“Brisbane are the form team of 2020 so hopefully we can kick on where the boys left off before the COVID-19 break.

“I believe I can add a bit to the midfield and help what has been a winning team so far this year. There’s plenty of attacking players who have been in great form this season so hopefully I can supply plenty of balls to them and have a strong contribution.”

CEO David Pourre says Ridenton will add plenty of experience to an already strong Roar squad.

“It’s terrific to add yet another player with international experience to our squad which is shaping up very nicely for a strong run into the finals,” Pourre said.

Ridenton is available for selection for Sunday’s fixture against Adelaide United at CBUS Super Stadium.
