Brisbane Roar is excited to announce the signing of former Germany youth international Matti Steinmann for the next A-League season and beyond.

Steinmann, 26, will join the Roar for pre-season following his recent spell with Indian Super League side East Bengal, where he played alongside Scott Neville.

The midfielder already boasts 24 games of A-League experience, having helped Wellington Phoenix reach last year’s Finals Series.

“I had a good season with Wellington, really enjoyed playing in the A-League, and I heard good things from Scott Neville during my time in India about Brisbane, about the club, about the city,” Steinmann said.

“I had a good chat with the gaffer as well, so that made it easy for me to sign with the club.

“I am very excited to fly over to Brisbane, start training with the boys and be on the pitch again. I just want to be part of the team for this really good club.

“I’m still in touch every week with Scott and he tells me that there are so many young players who are pushing hard, that the club is building a strong squad for the years to come.

“I just can’t wait to start. The league is so interesting.”

Brisbane Roar Head Coach Warren Moon said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Matti to Brisbane.

“I know he is very excited about playing in the A-League again. His enthusiasm speaks volumes about his passion for football here and his belief in what we’re developing.

“With that positive attitude and the qualities he brings to the squad at a good age, he is a very important signing for us.”

While back in his hometown of Hamburg for now, Steinmann was recently welcomed to his new club by none other than Roar great Thomas Broich.

The pair met up over Zoom to discuss Brisbane, the Roar, the A-League and what Matti can expect when he relocates to Queensland in the coming weeks.
