Roar players contest for World Cup spots

Nine championship-winning Brisbane Roar Women players are in Gosford this week to press their claims for a spot in Tom Sermanni’s Westfield Matildas squad for next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011™ in Germany.

Nine championship-winning Brisbane Roar Women players are in Gosford this week to press their claims for a spot in Tom Sermanni-s Westfield Matildas squad for next month-s FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011™ in Germany.

The Matlidas will play two games against the New Zealand Football Ferns during the seven day camp as Sermanni looks to trim his squad from 26 to a final 21-player squad to take to Germany.

Lisa De Vanna, Laura Alleway, Kim Carroll, Clare Polkinghorne, Lauren Colthorpe, Elise Kellond-Knight, Casey Dumont, Aivi Luik and Tameka Butt will all be vying for a ticket to Germany by putting in impressive displays in the matches against New Zealand scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday at Bluetongue Stadium.

The Matildas are the current AFC Asian Women-s Cup champions and are ranked 11th in the world by FIFA.

Australia has drawn Brazil, Equatorial Guinea and Norway in Group D for the FIFA Women-s World Cup 2011™.
