Brisbane Roar will finalise its Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season preparations with two pre-season clashes against some of Queensland’s top outfits on the eve of the opening round.

The Roar will host recently-crowned NPL QLD Champions Gold Coast Knights at Logan Metro Sports Park on Saturday, 28 September (4:30pm KO) before heading north to Kippa-Ring’s A.J. Kelly Park to face fellow NPL QLD finalists Peninsula Power a week later on Saturday, 5 October (5pm KO).

The clash against Peninsula Power marks the second edition of the Dolphin Community Shield, a trophy competed for annually between the two clubs. The Roar took out the inaugural clash ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 campaign, toppling the Power 3-2 twelve months ago.

Peninsula Power President Craig Feuerriegel is anticipating another strong crowd at A.J. Kelly Park for the Roar’s final pre-season clash.

“We are delighted to again host the Brisbane Roar as they prepare for the upcoming [Hyundai] A League season,” Feuerriegel said.

“Our club and community are proud to support Brisbane Roar and another large crowd is again expected to welcome them to take on our National Premier Leagues side at A.J. Kelly Park in the Dolphin Community Shield.”

“The community game will also give the supporters a chance to meet the teams for signings and photos before the match.”

Tickets for the match are just $5 for adults with free entry for children.

The two fixtures will round out the Roar’s Hyundai A-League pre-season, which has included two trips to the state’s regional areas for Queensland’s only Hyundai A-League squad, an FFA Cup Round of 32 victory as well as two earlier victories against NPL QLD outfits.

“We have had a terrific pre-season to date, taking Queensland’s only Hyundai A-League side across the state with a number of strong results and plenty of fantastic support along the way,” Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre said.

“It is a great opportunity for our boys to take on two of Queensland’s finest teams with the new season just a matter of weeks away.

“The inaugural Dolphin Community Shield was a superb event last pre-season and we’re excited to be returning to A.J. Kelly Park again for what I’m sure will be another memorable afternoon for both BRFC and Peninsula Power.

Robbie Fowler’s men open their Hyundai A-League 2019/20 campaign on the road against Perth Glory at HBF Park on Sunday, 13 October (5pm KO QLD time).
