Reigning Westfield W-League Premiers Brisbane Roar will begin their preparations for the 2013/14 season with a pre-season training camp at Byron Bay this weekend.

Seven months after they were knocked out of Championship contention in a fiercely fought semi-final against Sydney FC, last season-s table toppers have taken their pre-season campaign up a notch ahead of the sixth edition of the Westfield W-League.

The squad, yet to be finalised, will spend three days in camp at Byron Bay while also attending the 50th anniversary celebration of Byron Bay Football Club.

BBFC is the club where Head Coach Belinda Wilson started her coaching career, beginning as a 15-year-old coaching her brother-s U6 team, and she was excited to have the opportunity to bring the Roar Women to her local club.

“Byron Bay Football Club is one of the main reasons I-ve been able to continue by career as a coach and be part of elite programs in Australia and around the world,” Wilson said.

“The club encouraged me to do my coaching license and supported me over the years with the teams I-ve had at the club.

“The people involved at the club were always interested in what I was doing and were always willing to help out even after I had left Byron.

“This weekend is a great opportunity for me to give back to the club that has given me so much over the years and to share a big part of my history as a coach with the Roar players.”

The fixtures for the Westfield W-League 2013/14 season are yet to be released but that wasn-t stopping Wilson, who doubles as Australia-s U17 national women-s team coach, from working tirelessly to put together her squad and finalise the pre-season campaign.

“Last season, I had very little time to put a squad together so I-m enjoying the fact I-m able to take my time and assess the playing group,” Wilson said.

“With the support of the club, we-ll have a proper pre-season this year with various matches still to be scheduled which will prepare us well leasing into the start of the W-League season.”

The core of the last season-s Westfield W-League Premiership-winning squad is set to return for Brisbane with a few signings still to be announced for Wilson-s team.

Information on pre-season, Westfield W-League fixtures, squad and season launch will be announced as soon as details are confirmed.
