Roar hunt Glory in TV match

A well-matched and high-quality Westfield W-League contest is on offer this Sunday as Brisbane Roar host Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium (1pm KO) in a match that will also be telecast on Fox Sports and ABC TV.

Each side boasts some of Australia’s finest attacking players with the Roar likely to field prolific goalscorer Tameka Butt and midfield dynamo Katrina Gorry, while the Glory line-up has the rare X-factor offered by Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord. That quartet, plus a host of other players across the two teams will be energised by a week in Westfield Matildas camp in Canberra.

Both teams are hunting points, with Brisbane seeking to bounce back from an unexpected loss to Adelaide United in their most recent home outing. They nevertheless have an equal share of third with two wins from three matches.

The Glory are not so well placed having collected four points and just one win from their four outings. However the West Australians now seem to be building cohesion under their new coaching duo of Bobby Despotovski and Collette McCallum, and with a host of new squad players. Their somewhat luckless 1-0 loss to Sydney FC last weekend suggests brighter days ahead.

There will be extra sub-text around the game as several players take on their former teammates. Most notably, the Glory’s Kim Carroll will be visiting her home state for the first time since her move west. Meanwhile, the Roar’s Gabrielle Marzano is tackling her former side for the first time since her breakthrough season last year at the Glory.

If you can’t make it to the game, it all makes for an appetizing mix for TV viewers.

Watch all the action LIVE from 1PM (QLD time) on Fox Sports (Channel 505), or ABC TV. Or catch-up on ABC iView.
