Roar & Girls Grammar launch new partnership

Brisbane Girls Grammar School and Brisbane Roar FC are delighted to announce a new partnership in Female Football Week.

The Roar’s PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland 2017 Women’s squad will use the School’s playing fields at Fig Tree Pocket (Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Educational Centre) as their home training ground this season.

Brisbane Roar coaching staff and squad members will also help deliver a programme of mentoring and skill-building activities to Girls Grammar students and coaches.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School Principal, Ms Jacinda Euler says the School is excited to be partnering with the BRFC Women’s side.

“It is an outstanding opportunity for our girls to learn from, and be both challenged and inspired by professional sportswomen,” Principal Euler said.

“We know that sport has the ability to positively influence holistic learning and that the challenges of training and competing instils resilience, social values and leadership skills that remain with our students for a lifetime.”

Brisbane Girls Grammar School Principal added that she is pleased the School’s state-of-the-art training facility can be utilised by Queensland’s elite women’s footballing team.

“Rangakarra not only offers a training ground with high-quality facilities, it is also set within an area of great natural beauty and we are very proud to be sharing it with the Roar Women’s side.

“The partnership is very timely with the current growing interest in and excitement around women’s sport across Australia.”

Participation in football at Girls Grammar has increased significantly in recent years, with the School now having a squad of more than 60 girls from Years 7–12 and six teams competing in the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) competition.

Roar’s Head Coach Mel Andreatta was delighted to have a new training base of such an excellent standard for Roar Women’s PS4 NPL QLD programme.

“The opportunity to train at a wonderful venue at a School with so much history is an absolute privilege for myself and the players.” Andreatta said.

“This partnership is not only about football but about educating, mentoring, and providing a pathway for Girls Grammar students.

“It’s special to be able to announce this exciting news in the week we celebrated International Women’s Day and Female Football Week.”

The Brisbane Roar Women side will compete in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland Boys Under 14 competition, kicking-off on March 15.
