Roar excitement ahead of derby clash

Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou has high hopes the city of Brisbane will share in his excitement as he prepares his squad for an epic M1 derby clash against local rivals Gold Coast United on Saturday.

Postecoglou urged spectators to witness his side-s return to Suncorp Stadium for themselves when gates open for the first time after the iconic venue suffered heavy damage from the recent Queensland floods.

Fans are encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets for the blockbuster clash in order to avoid possible delays at the gate and place unnecessary strain on facilities still recovering from flood damage.

Emotions will be running at an all-time high at Suncorp Stadium for another significant reason as Brisbane Roar will be presented with their first ever piece of silverware – this season-s Hyundai A-League Premiers- Plate – after the final whistle.

With the Roar-s own Brisbane born and bred captain Matt McKay lined up to accept the trophy on behalf of the club alongside him, Postecoglou promised the city-s football fans a night they would remember for years to come.

“It-s going to be a massive night, we are really looking forward to it,” the Brisbane coach said.

“Obviously, it has been a tough month, we-ve been on the road for virtually a month and our supporters haven-t had the chance to see us play.

“With us winning the competition in terms of the Premiers- Plate and having it presented to us against Gold Coast, I-m hoping to make it a big celebration.”

After Brisbane-s last two home fixtures were re-located to Gold Coast-s Skilled Park, the Roar coach hoped the returning crowd would give his squad a reception worthy of their record-breaking season.

Not only did his players secure the premiership with two games spare, but the club is currently on a run of 24 matches without defeat – an Australian domestic football record and is the first team to score more than 50 goals in a Hyundai A-League season.

“It will be good recognition for the hard work that everyone has put in and also for our supporters,” Postecoglou said.

“I-m hoping everyone grabs something orange from home, puts in on and makes Suncorp a sea of orange and make it a real celebration.

“We-ve got to do our part and play well on the day but regardless, it would be great to see everyone down there to be a part of something special.”

Brisbane Roar host Gold Coast United in their last home game of the season on Saturday 12 February at Suncorp Stadium.
