Brisbane Roar’s complete focus is gearing up for the Hyundai A-League Round 1 against Perth Glory as preparations continued this week on the Fraser Coast, according to midfielder Jay O’Shea.

The Roar are now into their second day of their brief pre-season camp on the Fraser Coast, with the squad set to take on a Football Wide Bay Select outfit on Saturday evening at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct (5pm KO).

O’Shea, one of a number of new faces in this seasons Brisbane Roar squad, says his side’s week on the Fraser Coast provides them with another opportunity gel ahead of the new season.

“I think it’s really good for the team environment because obviously there’s so many new players, you get to know everyone a bit better,” O’Shea said.

“Being away from everything in Brisbane, you start bonding and gelling with the team because they’re the only faces that you see.

“Every meal time you’re with them and then hanging out round the hotel, going out for team bonding activities, it’s really good.”

The midfielder added his side certainly weren’t easing up on the training pitch with the opening match of the new Hyundai A-League season just over three weeks away.

“It’s quite tough obviously. They [the coaching staff] are not going to ease off on us with it getting quite close to the [Hyundai] A-League season now, so things are starting to ramp up,” O’Shea said.

“I’m really excited. Obviously it’s my first season out here and everybody has a lot of good things to say about it so I can’t wait for the first game,” O’Shea said.

On Saturday evening the Roar will take on a Football Wide Bay Select side at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct.

O’Shea said his side wouldn’t be taking Saturday’s opponents lightly.

“Obviously, we don’t really know much about them but we’ll be preparing like any other game, trying to get as much work in as we can,” O’Shea said.

“Everything now is just leaning towards the first game of the season so we won’t be easing off.

“We’ll be trying to move the ball quickly and implement everything that the gaffers been trying to get into us in pre-season, it won’t be any different than any of the other games we’ve played so far”
