Roar confirm McKay interest

Brisbane Roar can confirm its interest in re-signing former club captain Matt McKay.

Brisbane Roar can confirm its interest in re-signing former club captain Matt McKay.

McKay has returned to his hometown of Brisbane after his contract with Chinese Super League club Changchun was mutually terminated late last month.

“We-ve heard the calls from our members and our supporter groups to bring Matt McKay back to the club,” Managing Director Sean Dobson said.

“At Brisbane Roar, we believe the Australian marquee spot on our playing roster should be filled by a player who our fans are proud to see wearing our orange jersey.

“We are in negotiations with our owners to find the resources to accommodate such a move and we-re hoping we can make this a reality for our members and fans.”

McKay spent six Hyundai A-League seasons with the Roar before departing in August 2011, spending time with Rangers in Scotland and K-League club Busan IPark before his move to China in January this year.

The club will make no further comment on the matter but will update media if there are developments.
