Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Max Crocombe says the Roar squad has been really impressed with the opening day of its pre-season camp on the Fraser Coast

The Roar arrived in town on Wednesday afternoon the camp which includes a pre-season match against a Football Wide Bay Select outfit on Saturday, 21 September at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct (5pm KO).

“It’s fantastic! Great weather again, great facilities and we’re really looking forward to being here,” Crocombe said.

“You just step outside and it’s beautiful everyday, people are lovely – it’s been a really good start.

“It’s excellent what the Club’s doing, taking games around Queensland and broadening our network as such.”

Crocombe, who is one of 13 arrivals in Robbie Fowler’s new-look Brisbane Roar squad, was also part of the travelling squad for trips to Gladstone and Sydney during the pre-season.

The 26-year-old says trips away are extremely valuable for his team as they continue to gel ahead of the new Hyundai A-League season.

“I arrived a few weeks after everyone else, so everyone was new to me. I didn’t know who was new and who was old, but we’ve all settled in, we’ve had a few trips away like this and everyone’s got together really well,” Crocombe continued.

“There’s a good team spirit, a good team, we’re working hard and enjoying it away from the pitch as well.

“It’s been a tough two months on the training pitch but we’re getting fitter, stronger and feeling ready.”

The Roar will face a Football Wide Bay Select side at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct on Saturday afternoon.

Crocombe says his side would look to use Saturday’s match to continue to build on their momentum ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

“We’ve got to get whatever we can out of the game, so we’ve got to make sure that we approach it right, get the ball down, play attacking football, play quickly and give the Select team a real game,” he added.

“It’s about our fitness and working on what the gaffer’s been trying to implement. We’ve done it well so far, we’ve played well in pre-season and in the [FFA] Cup games – we’ve just got to go again until the season starts.”
