The Roar Women opened their Westfield W-League 2017/18 pre-season with a strong performance and a 2-1 win against The Gap FC on Friday night.
The match between the two talented sides helped celebrate 25 years of women's football at Walton Bridge Reserve.
A brace from striker Abbey Lloyd in Roar’s first pre-season match saw Mel Andreatta's side record a confidence-building victory in front of a stellar turnout.
Head coach, Mel Andreatta was honoured to play the game celebrating women within Gap FC history at the club where she began her coaching career.
“I am very thankful for the support I received as a young member of the gap, a club that operates as a family and helps nourish young players dreams to become professional footballers,” Andreatta said.
“Leading into the season kick-off I am very pleased with my sides great appliance of pressure persistence pushing forward.
“It was a great night and I am delighted by both sides empowering performance, it’s an evolutionary time for women in football.”
The home side shot out of the blocks with Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold forced into action in the opening two minutes denying Megan Price's long-range effort.
Brisbane opened the scoring after just seven minutes. Lightning fast attacker Allira Toby found space on the right wing and picked out Abbey Lloyd in the box with a pin-point cross to give the visitors a one-goal lead.
In a drama-packed opening first 15 minutes, Mackenzie Arnold was once again on hand to keep The Gap Women's side at bay expertly keeping out a dangerous free-kick to keep the home side scoreless.
The Roar Women held firm after an action-packed first half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Brisbane made it 2-0 early in the second half with Abbey Lloyd on hand to double the Roar's advantage after a mix up in The Gap FC backline.
The home side continued to push hard and were awarded a penalty ten minutes into the second half and made no mistake as Megan Price stepped up and hit the back of the net in her final game in purple.
Hong Kong International Wai Ki Cheung was introduced by Head Coach Mel Andreatta in the second half making her debut in orange as Brisbane's Westfield W-League side recorded an impressive victory in the side's first pre-season match.
The Roar will open season 10 on Friday, 27 October away to Sydney FC in a blockbuster round 1 match at Allianz Stadium.
