Brisbane Roar defender and Gold Coast local Aaron Reardon says this weekend’s Surf City Cup fixtures will be a great opportunity for members across the Club’s Hyundai A-League & Academy ranks to earn valuable match minutes.

The Roar face fellow Hyundai A-League Clubs Perth Glory on Friday, 30 August  (6:30pm KO) & Newcastle Jets on Sunday, September, 1 (4pm KO) in a tri-team series at the Croatian Sports Centre, home of NPL QLD outfit Gold Coast Knights.

Reardon believes the Surf City Cup will provide opportunity for invaluable minutes in the legs ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“It’s perfect, the more games in pre-season the better, especially because it’s a long pre season for the lads that means it doesn’t drag on as much so it’s great having these games,” Reardon said.

“We’re a very tight squad already and some of the boys have only been here six weeks – it’s good to see that we’ve gelled really quickly.

“Of course we want to win these games and it’s also a good chance for match fitness for all of the boys.”

Having grown up on the Gold Coast as a local junior and still living in the region, Reardon says it’s a terrific opportunity for the city to host the trio of Hyundai A-League clubs.

“It’s massive for the Coast. Growing up here as a young boy, I think it’s great to bring back some big games here especially against Perth and Newcastle. They’re two big teams in the [Hyundai] A-League and I think it will be a great hit out.”

“Having all these teams here is perfect for the Gold Coast community – people can come down and watch some quality football.

“Hopefully there are lot of fans in the stands to cheer us on,” Reardon concluded.
