Preview: Roar aiming for three points in Adelaide

Brisbane Roar vs Adelaide United

Brisbane Roar’s Scott Neville insists victory is the sole objective for this evening’s important A-League away game against Adelaide United.

Warren Moon’s men beat Adelaide 3-1 on home soil earlier this season and know a win at Coopers Stadium on Sunday would move them two points ahead of the fifth-placed Reds.

It would also strengthen the side’s top-four ambitions and prove a welcome reward for effort at the end of a run of six games in less than three weeks.

“Nothing less than three points is what we aim for,” Neville said on the eve of the Matchweek 21 fixture.

“There will be no excuses from us. Hopefully we put on a good performance not only for the boys but for the fans back home. Hopefully we can secure a spot in that top four.”

The Roar have lost just one of their past nine matches, and have only conceded more than a single goal in a game on one occasion during that time.

Adelaide, meanwhile, will be wanting to end a five-game winless streak.

After battling rainy weather in recent home matches, Neville was keeping his fingers crossed for drier conditions in South Australia.

“Hopefully there’s a fast track that will suit our type of play,” he said, “and our exciting players like Dylan [Wenzel-Halls], Joey [Champness] and Riku [Danzaki] can dribble and really be on fire, and as a midfield and defensive unit we can back them up.

“Hopefully we get a good strong result.”
