Preview: Roar ready for return to Bankwest Stadium

Brisbane Roar team huddle

Brisbane Roar Head Coach Warren Moon has set his sights squarely on taking as many points as possible from the team’s remaining games, beginning with Sunday afternoon’s trip to Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Roar could rise to third in the A-League with a win at Bankwest Stadium, where they prevailed 2-1 last time around thanks to goals from Josh Brindell-South and Riku Danzaki.

Another three points would go close to confirming Finals Series qualification but as the permutations come into play, Moon simply wants to continue winning.

“We just have to look forward,” he said. “There are three games to go, so we should be trying to get nine points and that’s the mindset we’re going to take into Sunday and beyond.

“It’s going to be a tough game, we obviously want to put our best foot forward and stick to what we do well, but we know they’re a good side and they’re a side coming off a tough loss so they’re going to want to try to bounce back from that.

“[Then it will be] two home games to finish [the season], and the one thing I really, really hope is that we can get two big crowds there to support us and see if they can get us over the line and make the Finals.”

Brisbane Roar Team Celebration

Brisbane enter their Matchweek 23 fixture after recording back-to-back victories, while Western Sydney will be out to snap a three-match losing streak.

The Queenslanders have had extra reason to celebrate this week with new deals announced for Brindell-South, Alex Parsons and Cyrus Dehmie, who are all part of the extended 20-man squad.

Moon said each signing perfectly aligned with the Roar’s belief in local talent.

“We want to have a good team, we want players of quality,” he said.

“We also want a Queensland feel to what we’re doing here and players that can identify with this club and our community.”
