Young Roar forward Dauntae Mariner says his side won’t be resting on their laurels ahead of Saturday night’s clash against Peninsula Power at AJ Kelly Park. (5pm KO)

After spending time overseas with Blackburn Rovers and Portuguese outfit FC Vizela, Mariner has made a scintillating start to his second stint at the Roar.

The winger fired home a hat-trick in his side’s 6-0 win over Sunshine Coast FC a fortnight ago in his first start since returning to the Roar

Following his goalscoring return to the Roar, the 19-year old said he was loving every minute of his time back in Brisbane.

“It’s probably the best way to start, I’ve set the bar quite high for myself so I have to continue to work hard but it’s a team game as well so credit to the rest of the team for getting to ball in the positions to allow me to score,” Mariner said.

“It’s definitely good to be back and to come and slot right in is really nice, it’s good be back around the family again too after some time away.

“I think we’re onto something here with the boys, it’s a very young, talented side here. There’s definitely something brewing.”

Saturday night’s match pits the Young Roar against NPL QLD league leaders Peninsula Power. The Young Roar come into Saturday’s clash in a rich vein of goal scoring form, having netted 15 goals in the last four outings.

Mariner said he was looking forward to the challenge the league leaders would pose for his side.

“It’s quite a big game, I’ve watched a lot of their footage from previous games and they’re quite a big side so I think it will be a brilliant test for us both as individuals and collectively,” Mariner said.

“We’re taking all of that positivity from our previous games into this week and we’re looking forward to the challenge.

“As a group we just want to improve every week and hopefully that will show in our performances, especially with a couple of big games coming up,” Mariner concluded.

Saturday’s match will be live streamed on the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
