Brisbane Roar Head Coach Robbie Fowler says his side are shaping up well ahead of their final pre-season hit out against Peninsula Power at AJ Kelly Park on Saturday evening (5pm KO).

The Roar head to Kippa Ring to take on the NPL Queensland outfit in the second edition of the Dolphin Community Shield.

Saturday’s match is the final chance for Fowler to fine tune his squad ahead of their Hyundai A-League opener against Perth Glory at HBF Park on October 13.

“The lads are really looking forward to the start of the season, we’ve had a good few months of getting them ready and the season can’t come quick enough now,” Fowler said.

“We know what we need to do. I think results pre-season have been fantastic, there’s been really good performances and good results so we head into the season in pretty good stead.”

The Roar have taken eight wins from their nine pre-season matches, including victories over both of last year’s Hyundai A-League Champions and Premiers.

Fowler says he is delighted with the progress shown by his side since the beginning of pre season in early July.

“I think it’s been absolutely brilliant, what we wanted to achieve so far we’ve delivered, players are enjoying it and when you’ve got players who give everything every single day then it makes my job a lot easier,” Fowler continued.

“I’ve loved it. It’s been difficult because we are effectively a new team who want to play well, who want to have lots of possession.

“We know there are lots of results to be had, but we’ll look to play the right way. We’ll play easy on the eye, with players creating and finding space themselves.

“I think we as a coaching staff have brought in a vibe where we are quite demanding in what we want from them in terms of effort and the attitude and they’ve delivered exceptionally.”
