Preview: Friday night football in Melbourne

Brisbane Roar has travelled south to Melbourne confident of returning later this weekend with three points in the bag.

The Roar take on last season’s grand finalists Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park tomorrow night (6:50pm KO) for the third and final time this campaign.

Last weekend's disappointing 2-1 defeat against the top-three side, Melbourne City, will help spur Brisbane on against City's neighbours on Friday.

“We know that we deserved more out of Sunday’s game against Melbourne City,” Head Coach John Aloisi said.

"We’re going into tomorrow night's match knowing that we can go to Melbourne with strong belief and continued confidence that we have what it takes to win."

While AAMI Park hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Roar, just one away defeat since November suggests just a fifth victory on the road against the Victory could be on the cards.

The Victory failed to score last round against the Jets but boast a potent attack including former Roar players Besart Berisha and Kosta Barbarouses. The latter was recently nominated for the PFA Player of the Month for January.

“It’s a good opportunity for us because we believe that, physically, we’re in good shape. We’ve picked up three wins in our last four away games,” Aloisi said.

“We know that there will be opportunities for us but are aware that they have dangerous players going forward who can hurt us.

“We have to be switched on defensively and make sure we take the game to them with the ball.

In a boost for the Roar, who will be without 2017 Gary Wilkins Medallist Corey Brown through suspension, experienced defender Jade North has been included in the travelling squad.

“Jade has had a good week at training, feels good, brings with him great experience from playing in important games, and tomorrow night is an important game," Head Coach John Aloisi concluded.
