Goalkeeper Jamie Young says Brisbane Roar are looking to finish the season on a high when they host Adelaide United in a historic ANZAC Day clash at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday afternoon (2pm KO).

The Hyundai A-League fixture will be the first of its kind in Queensland & the first time the Roar has played on one of Australia’s most important days.

“When you get older you realise the gravity of what people had to go through, I’ve been lucky enough to spend my whole career playing football but these guys have given up their lives for freedom which is something we can’t take lightly,” Young said.

“It takes a lot of courage to do those things and although I’m very lucky to do what I do, I acknowledge people who have given their lives for the service of this country.”

Thursday’s clash is the Roar’s final game of the 2018/19 Hyundai A-League season and Young said his side will give their all to finish on a high.

“There’s three points to play for and for me playing another game at Suncorp [Stadium] in front of the home fans, it means everything,” Young said.

“Regardless of who we play against I want to give my best and I know there’s other guys in the team who feel the same too.”

Retiring Roar legend Matt McKay will play his final match for the club, while the departing Henrique, who misses the match with a groin injury, will also be honoured at Thursday’s game.

Young said the contributions of the departing Roar legends to the Club could not be understated.

“I’ve known Matty for 18 years and to think that he won’t be playing football just shows you how old we’re getting.”

“They’ve been part of some of the very best times of this club and some of the great sporting achievements in Australia, not just in football.”

“35 games unbeaten, the grand final wins, Riki scoring goals, Matty representing our country 60 odd times, I think you have to appreciate what they’ve gone and done.”

Be there for your chance to meet incumbent BRFC Head Coach Robbie Fowler pre-game.
