What better way to kick off Season 3 of the Westfield W League than with a rematch of last season-s Grand Final!

Those who witnessed the nail biting match will remember it featured 5 spectacular goals, proving to be great entertainment right up until the final minute. Sydney ended up claiming the title of W League champions for 2009, winning 3-2.

The memory of this game will be fresh in the minds of players from both teams. The opportunity provides fuel for revenge from the Queenslanders and re-claiming pride for the girls in blue.

This time however, many factors will contribute to the match being played at an even higher level. Much football has been played since that game, trophies have been lifted and players have shone on the international stage.

Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC both boast a number of players who represented the Westfield Matildas for their historic AFC Women-s Asian Cup championship winning success!

The likes of Leena Khamis, Heather Garriock and Kyah Simon from Sydney and Clare Polkinghorne, Elise Kellond-Knight and Aivi Luik of Brisbane Roar have been in great form and all played a major role in the success of the Westfield Matildas campaign.

One player in particular to watch will be captain for the Roar, Clare Polkinghorne. Known to her team mates as ‘Polks’, Clare has been playing great football all year, recently being rewarded for it, receiving the FFA’s female Player of the Year Award. Providing a dominating presence and an invaluable ball winning mentality, Polks can sometimes determine whether or not a team wins or loses.

Either way this is not a game to be missed, with pride on the line and State v State bragging rights up for grabs, this is bound to be a thriller!

To see your Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC women-s football stars in action and cheer your team on, get along to the game where you can buy tickets at the gate. Or, as the ‘match of the round- you can watch the game live on ABC1 from 3.00pm AEDT.
