Postecoglou wants fortress Suncorp

Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou is urging his team to make the most of the remaining home games and push hard for the finals starting with tomorrow night-s encounter against Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium.

The match against the Reds opens a pivotal week for the Roar-s campaign which includes another home match against North Queensland Fury on Wednesday before a trip to the Central Coast next Saturday.

Adelaide offer a good chance for points as they occupy bottom place on the Hyundai A-League ladder, but Postecoglou said his team would have to be aware of the threat posed by the wounded Reds.

“Away from home this week they could come out and play with no fear and nothing to lose,” the Brisbane boss said.

“They-re as desperate as ever because they-re on the bottom of the table

“(But) we-re just as desperate. It-s a massive week for us and a massive opportunity to get into the finals race.”

After mixed results in the past three matches, Postecoglou said consistency over the next seven days would go a long way at the end of the season.

“We were all kicking ourselves we didn-t get three points (against Perth last weekend) because we worked hard enough to get it,” he said.

“But I think that draw away from home will be a good result if we can pick up three points. We have to.

“It-s a big week for us. Three games in seven days, a big workload, we-re pretty thin on the ground because of our injuries but at the same time we could really turn our season around in these three games, starting on Saturday night.

“We-re at home, we had a great performance at home last time around and I-m sure the players are eager to back that up.”

Young gun Tommy Oar is still only a “50-50” chance of taking to the pitch tomorrow night, with Postecoglou conceding he may have to sideline the exciting winger to ensure his availability for the two games next week.

However, he said likely replacement Michael Zullo would be a more-than-capable replacement.

“He (Zullo) is a very good player - he-s proven that - so for us to get someone like him back is a massive bonus,” he said.
