Pain of 2019 fuels finals hunger

Jack Hingert says the disappointment of last season has ignited the fire to return the Roar to the top of Australian football.

The Roar missed finals for the first time in eight seasons in the 2019/20 campaign, but have booked an immediate return with their spot inside the top six secure.

Brisbane will open its 2019/20 Finals Campaign on Sunday with a date against league newcomers Western United at Bankwest Stadium (6pm kick-off).

A tumultuous season was soured further for Hingert who was sidelined for the majority of the campaign following a serious knee injury – the recovery from which also stretched into the beginning of the current season.

“I had the ACL injury which came at a rough part of the season for the team & the Club,” Hingert said.

“It was even more disappointing for me to have the personal issues with the knee and then not being able to keep fighting the rest of the season and just having to watch from the sidelines.

“It was a season to forget last season, but it’s also good to look back and it makes you hungrier to be successful.

“Over the years I’ve been here, we are a successful club, we do have high standards and to have that season last year served as a reminder of what it could be like if things don’t go your way or if you don’t put in 100% every day.

“It was a bit of a wake up a call. For me personally, it made me really want to strive and gave me back that hunger to be back where we belong – in finals and being successful.”

Hingert is in contention to make his 201st Hyundai A-League appearance on Sunday and says there’s great belief in the squad that they can go all the way.

“It’s been a good season so far and there’s no reason why we can’t make it a very successful one & go all the way.”
