Brisbane Roar will be looking to finish 2017 on a positive note on Saturday afternoon when we take on Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium.
With three points up for grabs, the Roar have the chance to climb back within reach of the top six as featuring in finals football remains the ambition for Head Coach John Aloisi.
“We just have to focus on our game each week because we know if we can string a few results together then we’ll back up in the top six. Our focus is getting a win in Adelaide and then picking up a few more in the coming weeks,” Aloisi said.
“We still believe that we’ll get to where we want to be and that’s making finals.”
Tomorrow’s clash will be the second meeting between the two sides this campaign after the Reds took the points at Suncorp Stadium in Round 2.
Italian striker Massimo Maccarone netted his maiden Brisbane Roar goal that day and will be looking to pull up alongside the Hyundai A-League’s leading goalscorers after finding the back of the net in his last two games.
Aloisi says his side has shown this season that they have what it takes to match the Reds and are eager to find that winning feeling again.
“We’ve matched everyone – I can’t remember a game this season where we have been outplayed. We have shown that we can play and create chances against any team,” Aloisi said.
“We want to get that winning feeling back because this squad is full of winners who know how to win football games which is what we’ll be looking to do tomorrow.”
Four teenagers have been named in the 18-man squad to face the Reds with young attacker Daniel Leck promoted alongside defender Dane Ingham.
With a number of players currently unavailable, Aloisi says there will be a chance for someone to step up and make an impact.
“I’m excited about all these young players like Rahmat Akbari, Daniel Leck and Dane Ingham who are coming through and have shown that they have a lot of quality,” he said.
“Both Leck and Akbari came on against the Victory and they didn’t shy away from the contest – that’s a big positive.
“In training, Rahmat has shown that he’s not scared of coming up against seasoned professionals who have played at the highest level.
“I’m excited by the prospect of what he can do on the football pitch, as I am with all the young players in our squad.”
