New Brisbane Roar recruit Roy O’Donovan says his first impressions of his new Club have been extremely positive following the commencement of pre-season training at the Club’s City of Logan training base this week.

O’Donovan, who is one of ten new faces in the Roar squad, linked up with his new teammates for the first time on Monday as new Head Coach Robbie Fowler put the team through their paces for the maiden pre-season session.

The Irishman, who netted 39 goals in 80 Hyundai A-League appearances across stints at Central Coast and Newcastle, says he is enjoying the intensity on the training pitch this week.

“It’s started at 100 miles an hour but that’s good, there’s no time to waste, we’re a new team trying to gel and the hard work started on Monday,” O’Donovan said.

“It’s been enjoyable as well, it’s been fun but as I said, difficult.”

The former Republic of Ireland youth international, who made 17 Premier League appearances for Sunderland says he’s been impressed with the set up at this new Club.

“It’s a club that seems to have things together,” O’Donovan continued.

“Definitely infrastructure is very good. They have their own training base which is a big start – they’re ahead of the game in that regard – big fanbase, big stadium too.

“Guys have come back in good shape. They’re smiling, they’re happy and they’ve got a point to prove which is very important when it’s a season that Brisbane Roar need to show everybody what they’re all about.”
