No rest for Roar

After helping Brisbane Roar to a big win over Wellington last weekend, powerful striker Sergio van Dijk says his team needs to work hard to keep the good times rolling in Perth this Sunday.

The Dutchman played a key part in keeping Brisbane-s finals hopes alive and kicking, claiming a goal and an assist to put the Roar just one point outside the top six heading into round 17.

But the Roar will need to do what they haven-t been able to all season and score consecutive wins if they are to cement their place as finals contenders during the second half of the season.

With this in mind, van Dijk said the team had no time to dwell on Sunday-s 4-1 win.

“Every win also gives you a boost in confidence, but when you win you have to work even harder to keep winning,” he said. “That-s what we have to do now.

“We-re not there yet. It-s a long way and we have to keep on working hard and the rest will follow.”

Coach Ange Postecoglou said the win on Sunday was just reward for the effort of the players over the past few weeks and would give confidence levels a welcome boost.

“We-ve been under all sorts of pressure, the players in particular,” he said.

“We can-t get carried away but it-s a good win for a team that-s struggled to win at home.

“You send a message out there that you do mean business. Obviously we-ve still got to back that up. We haven-t been able to do that - get a run of wins together.

“But when you win, and against a good side - they-ve done well recently - to win so comprehensively I guess is good for the players- confidence.”

Brisbane Roar-s match against Perth this Sunday kicks off at 6pm AEST and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 2.
