New recruit capitalising on opportunities

Brindell-South

A crucial four weeks ahead awaits for the Roar squad ahead of the A-League season opener, beginning with this Saturday’s clash against the NPL QLD All-Stars, according to new recruit Joshua Brindell-South.

The off-season addition who joined the club from eventual NPL QLD champions Lions FC is expecting a tricky test this Saturday evening at Dolphin Stadium when the NPL QLD’s finest get their shot against Queensland’s only A-League team.

The fixture forms part of a double header with both the Roar’s men’s & women’s teams in action.

“I think it’ll be a really tough game. You don’t get in that team for a reason – there’ll be a few boys who are keen to put on a show,” Brindell-South said.

“With the NPL QLD Grand Final last weekend, it showed just how good the NPL is here in Queensland. It’ll be a tough game and we’ll need to be at our best to come away with the win.”

The 27-year-old is beginning to hit his straps in the new colours with goals in consecutive pre-season fixtures, including a terrific strike from an acute angle against NPL QLD Premiers Peninsula Power on Sunday.

“It’s something I’ve been working towards in the last few weeks as well. I got my chance and it felt really good to be out on the pitch with the boys,” Brindell-South added.

“I think each week we’re really clicking and getting better & better. The games are getting tougher as well, which is good.

“I knew as soon as I got the ball I was going to shoot. Obviously my right foot is the strongest, I just wanted to push it up past him and I laced it.”

Less than four weeks remain until the opening of a fresh A-League campaign for the Roar with a further pre-season clash against the Newcastle Jets in Coffs Harbour penned in for Saturday, 12 December.

The versatile full-back knows a tough few weeks of pre-season preparations lie ahead.

“We want to be as prepared as well as possible before Round 1 so it’s really important to get on the front foot in these next few weeks.”
