A team ‘full of leaders’ will be crucial to the Roar’s tilt at a fourth Hyundai A-League Championship according to Head Coach Warren Moon.

The Roar recorded its first win since the restart of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory in Parramatta.

Scott McDonald & Matthew Ridenton provided the crucial finishes, but it’s the leadership across the park that has the new Head Coach impressed and confident.

“We have a good core group with a lot of leaders and a lot of winners in this team,” Moon said.

“We have a core leadership group who lead on the pitch and lead by example – you can see that in things like Tom’s [Aldred] header at the end and Scott’s [Neville] tackle to keep them out.

“We have a lot of leaders on the pitch and it’s great to have that experience in your team.”

The Roar have been bunkered together in a Sydney hub since departing Brisbane on July 20.

“I think we’re enjoying each other’s company and I think a win like this will really set us up moving forward into the next games and beyond,” Moon added.

The Roar’s final two games are as tough as it comes this season with tests against the league’s top two sides in Wellington Phoenix & Sydney FC.

Moon’s men have already toppled the Nix once this season & they’re not shying away from the challenge.

“For us it’s about looking up. We want to take these games head on – if we make the finals, we’re going to have to face them at some stage anyway,” Moon added.

“We get the chance to look at them over the next few weeks and who knows, we might surprise.”
