MATCH REPORT: Roar defeated in Ballarat

Brisbane Roar have gone down 3-1 to Hyundai A-League rivals Melbourne Victory in Friday evening's pre-season fixture in Ballarat.

A brace to Victory striker Besart Berisha and a goal to Jai Ingham was enough for Kevin Muscat's side to claim the win at Morshead Park.

John Alosi's men will head back to Queensland and continue to prepare for the side's Hyundai A-League season opener against Melbourne City at AAMI Park on October 6.

Roar's newest recruit Petros Skapetis, who scored a memorable goal against Melbourne Victory in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 the last time the two teams met, again showed his quality by scoring his fourth goal of pre-season.

The home side opened the scoring through marksman Besart Berisha in the 14th minute when the former Brisbane Roar striker scored from a rebound after his first attempt was denied by Roar keeper Michael Theo.

Jai Ingham was on hand to put the Victory 2-0 up in the 19th minute, with the lively winger tapping in a Mitch Austin cross.

Brisbane responded to the setback with Petros Skapetis' second goal in as many games against the Victorian-based side enough to reduce the deficit to a single goal.

The Roar started the second half with strong intent and almost found the equaliser when a Massimo Maccarone effort from Skapetis' cross went just wide.

Berisha bagged his brace against the run of play mid-way through the second half to put his side 3-1 ahead.

Although behind on the scoreboard, the boys in Orange continued to push forward and finished the game strongly, creating numerous scoring opportunities with the best chance falling to Massimo Maccarone whose free-kick late on went just inches over the bar.

Brisbane's Hyundai A-League side will now turn their attention to next Saturday's pre-season match against Olympic FC at Goodwin Park.
