Brisbane Roar has bolstered its defensive stocks with the addition of young English centre back Macaulay Gillesphey.

The 23-year-old joins the Roar from League One outfit Carlisle United and will link up with his new teammates at the Club’s City of Logan Training Facility for pre-season preparations which commence next week.

Gillesphey made 93 appearances for Carlisle United across three seasons after spending several years at current Premier League outfit Newcastle United as a youngster.

The opportunity to join Brisbane Roar under new Head Coach Robbie Fowler was an opportunity the creative defender leapt at.

“I fancied doing something different and when the opportunity came about, it was definitely one I was interested in,” Gillesphey said.

“The facilities here [at the Club’s City of Logan Training Facility] look top-notch and I’m really looking forward to it.”

The towering defender, who has signed a long-term deal with the Club, is quite familiar with the Hyundai A-League and the history of his new Club.

“I have seen quite a bit of the [Hyundai] A-League and I’ve done my research on the Club as well,” Gillesphey continued.

“I’ll be doing everything I can to help add some more silverware.”

Gillesphey is the fourth addition to Head Coach Robbie Fowler’s side ahead of pre-season preparations with Irish talisman Roy O’Donovan locked in alongside defender Tom Aldred & Welshman Aaron Amadi-Holloway.
