A determined Brisbane Roar will be fighting tooth and nail for three valuable points when the Newcastle Jets visit Suncorp Stadium this Saturday night according to emerging centre-back Luke DeVere.

Treating the last five games as if they were grand final matches, the Roar are eyeing a top six spot and are ready to claim the Jets as their first scalp.

“They-re all big matches from here on in but this one especially,” DeVere said.

“The next few games we-ve got coming up, most of the teams are sitting around us.

“So any wins we get, we-re certainly going make up ground and hopefully push ourselves into that (final) six.”

And the intensity is starting to show, with the squad battling for positions in simulated match settings on the training ground.

DeVere said the training run was a good hit-out as the club prepares to face the fourth placed Jets.

“We went through a full sized game and the boys looked good and a few positions trialled, so it looks alright,” he said.

The Jets visit the Roar on the back end of three games in six days, losing to Gold Coast United 2-0 at Skilled Park last night.

DeVere said Saturday-s match was also the perfect opportunity to exorcise the defensive demons from last rounds loss to Wellington.

“I know a lot of the boys were disappointed with last week-s performance,” he said.

“We had a lot to play for ... and we came up a bit short and conceded some stupid goals.

“(But) I think everyone is looking forward to trying to fix those sorts of problems.”

With only two games left at Suncorp Stadium, the Roar are hoping to finish the year in style in front of their home support.

“Obviously our form at home hasn-t been the greatest this season,” DeVere said.

“So I think all the boys are looking forward to hopefully getting another couple of wins in the last two games."

Saturday night-s match against Newcastle Jets kicks off at 8pm at Suncorp Stadium. Tickets are available through Ticketek, click here for details.
