Versatile midfielder George Lambadaridis has pledged his future to Brisbane Roar, signing a two year contract that will see him with the club until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.

Previously one of the Roar-s full-time National Youth League players, Lambadaridis was thankful to be able to upgrade his contract and stay in Brisbane under the tutelage of Head Coach Mike Mulvey and rest of the club-s coaching staff.

“It-s fantastic to secure your future and I just want to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to stay here for another two years,” the 20-year-old.

“They gave me my first professional contract as a full time youth player here two years ago and I look forward to continuing my development here as a footballer and maximising my first team opportunities.”

Lambadaridis has already made five senior appearances for the Roar, three times this Hyundai A-League season and twice in last year-s successful run to the Championship.

“George is been excellent ever since I-ve arrived and he-s even taken his game to a new level,” Mulvey said.

“I-m happy to sign him because he-s a talented, versatile young player with a good passing range and an eye for goal.”

Brisbane fans will fondly remember the Melbourne-born youngster-s last minute stunner in the final round of the season against Gold Coast United, the club which Mulvey was then coaching.

“We-ve joked about that goal but it was a great start for me,” Lambadaridis said.

“It gave me a taste, it made me hungrier than ever to continue on and I-m extremely grateful to be here.”

Able to play in a range of positions across the midfield, Lambadaridis said his preferred position is in the centre.

“I see myself not as an out-and-out defensive midfielder or an out-and-out number 10 but someone between the lines, in that number eight role,” he explained.

Before joining the Roar in September 2011, Lambadaridis played for Belgian side Club Brugge-s youth team and Oakleigh Cannons in the Victorian Premier League.
