Brisbane Roar has made a major investment in the future of football development in Queensland with the appointment of Ken Stead to the position of Football Director.

Brisbane Roar has made a major investment in the future of football development in Queensland with the appointment of Ken Stead to the position of Football Director.

Stead played a key role in the Roar-s successful 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons that saw the club break new ground as the first back-to-back Hyundai A-League Champions and will now overlook the club-s expanding football department.

In recent months, Brisbane Roar-s football department has grown to integrate the Brisbane Roar W-League team and has plans to expand its responsibility for the development of young Queensland footballers.

Stead will be the driving force behind building the club towards long-term football sustainability and success by utilising his methodical and scientific-based management style.

“I-m honoured and privileged to be the Football Director,” said Stead, who has also worked professionally as a conditioning coach and academy development consultant in the United Kingdom and the Middle East.

“As the only Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League club in the state, we take the responsibility of inspiring young Queenslanders to play, enjoy and succeed in football very seriously.

“My role will be to ensure this continues to happen while developing both male and female footballing talent and protecting and progressing Brisbane Roar-s characteristic style of play and philosophy.”

Managing Director Sean Dobson explained the appointment was a result of an ongoing strategic review of the football department.

“With Ken-s expertise, experience and contacts, we can ensure that the men-s, women-s and youth programs have strong and equal support,” Dobson said.

“Ken shares our football philosophy with Head Coaches Mike Mulvey and Belinda Wilson which will keep Brisbane Roar-s style progressive and ahead of the pack, as shown in our pre-season results so far.”

Stead-s appointment is effective immediately.
