Brisbane Roar midfielder Aiden O’Neill says this week’s trip to Hervey Bay will provide another great opportunity for the squad to gel ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 campaign.

The trip will include a number of community engagements with the local community, as well as a pre-season fixture against a Football Wide Bay Select outfit on Saturday, 21 September at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct (5pm KO).

Football fans will also be able to rub shoulders with the Roar’s Hyundai A-League stars at a Team Dinner on Thursday, 19 September at the Hervey Bay RSL, hosted by the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce.

The 21-year-old says the training camp will allow his side to further build on what has been a positive pre-season to date.

O'Neill

“We’ve gelled really well and that’s one of the benefits of a long pre-season – we get a few trips away as a team to different places which is really good for us all,” O’Neill said.

“We just need to gel, and come the start of the season, we’re all going to be ready and it all starts from there.

“We’ve done well – there’s a lot of new players this year so it takes some time and come the first game of the season we’re all hopefully going to be on fire.”

The 300km+ journey adds more kilometres to the Roar’s pre-season road trip, which has already included visits to Sydney & a week-long pre-season camp in Gladstone.

The preparations so far has seen the Roar record a number of strong results with O’Neill adding the side’s focus is entirely on fine-tuning their processes ahead of the Round 1 date with Perth Glory

“I think it’s all about us. We don’t focus too much about the opposition, we’ll just try do what we’re trying to do,” O’Neill said.

“We’ve just got to focus on us and being ready for the start of the season.”
