The countdown to the opening round of the Hyundai A-League season has almost reached single digits with excitement hitting fever pitch.

The Roar will take place in the final game of the opening round away to the defending premiers Perth Glory on Sunday, 13 October (5pm QLD time) – a fixture that has been earmarked on calendars throughout the squad for some time now.

Former Glory defender Scott Neville, one of 13 additions during the off-season by new Head Coach Robbie Fowler, says he & his teammates cannot wait for the new season to arrive.

“Everyone is excited – it’s been a long pre-season, we’ve been working really hard, had some good wins & a few great training camps and now it’s time to really hone in for the first game against Perth [Glory],” Neville said.

“The boys are just raring to go – we’re in a great position where nearly all the lads are fit and we’re all chirping at the bit to get a game and really pushing one another.”

The opening round clash also provides a chance for the Perth junior to catch up with some familiar faces.

“It’s nice for me to be able to go back home and play in front of my Mum & Dad, well as catch up with some old friends,” he added.

“For us though, it’s Round 1 and just a bit unfortunate we don’t get to play at home until Round 3.”

Two pre-season fixtures remain before the October 13 date with the Glory – the first to be this Saturday at Logan Metro Sports as the Roar face against recently-crowned NPL QLD Champions Gold Coast Knights (4:30pm KO). Entry is via gold coin donation.

“They have some great players, including the likes of [former BRFC players] Matt Smith and Mitch Nichols. We’re really looking forward to the game and it’ll be a great test before the season starts,” Neville continued.

Saturday’s penultimate pre-season clash against the Knights will be followed by the second edition of the Dolphin Community Shield as the Roar make the trip to A.J. Kelly Park to face NPL QLD finalists Peninsula Power on Saturday, 5 October (5pm KO).
